What Do We Mean By Free?
Actually Free means no ads, no purchases, no subscriptions, no trials, no nagging and no surprise bundles. The details:
- No ads. None. Not a banner, not a pop-up, not a “sponsored” anything.
- No in-app purchases. No extra levels, no coins, no unlocks.
- No subscriptions. No monthly charges, no free trials that turn into charges.
- No trials. “Free for 30 days” is not free.
- No nagging. Begging you to upgrade every launch counts as an ad. A single dismissible mention is information, every-launch popups are ads.
- No surprise bundles. The installer installs the app and nothing else — no toolbars, no pre-checked “special offers” and no cryptominer hitching a ride.
- No paid versions. No “pro” edition with the good features locked away.
- No paid server. A free client that depends on a paid or subscription service is not free.
Requesting donations is fine — as long as everything works whether you donate or not.
Free Enough: some apps have paid upgrades, but their free tier is the complete product — most people who use them never feel the need to pay. They're tagged Free Enough, and each one's page explains exactly why the free version is enough. The bar above still applies to everything else.
Personal Use: some apps are free for people but paid for businesses. They're tagged Personal Use so the license limit is visible before you download.
Needs Account: some apps require an account for their core features. They're tagged needs account so you know before you install.
We check app details before listing — some by hand, some with automated checks — but we have not installed or tested them all; use caution when installing.
Developers change their minds. If a listed app starts charging, tell us and we'll re-check it.
Anything marked needs 👀 is still waiting on a human review.
Why the list is short: most “free” apps aren't actually free. They show you ads or sell you things. We'd rather list a few hundred apps we trust than thousands we don't.
Know an app that belongs here? Suggest it. Spot one that broke the rules? Tell us and we'll pull it.
